What Is Network Solutions?

Network Solutions is a U.S.-based technology company that is a subsidiary of—one of the largest domain name registrars. However, while Network Solutions is a subsidiary of, Network Solutions has a very dated interface leading to a subpar user experience whereas is very modern and intuitive. On top of that, the cost for a domain from is $11.99 per year—compared to $20 per year with Network Solutions.

Here’s what Network Solutions offers:

  • Web hosting
  • Domain name registration
  • Website builder
  • Website security plans
  • SSL certificates
  • Business email
  • Email marketing
  • Marketing services

How Network Solutions Works

Network Solutions primarily operates as a web hosting provider and an accredited domain name registrar. Its interface is very dated and its user experience is below average. However, it is easy to register a domain name or purchase a web hosting plan, though the process can feel salesy as there are a number of upsells and add-ons in the check-out process.

Upon purchasing a domain from Network Solutions, it’s geared toward using the domain with its drag-and-drop site builder. Manually connecting the domain to a third-party web hosting service is possible, but it lacks resources surrounding how to do this, which makes it difficult for those who are not familiar with connecting domains to hosting plans.

Is Network Solutions Right for Me?

Network Solutions is not the most versatile or affordable solution on the market. Those who are looking to buy a domain will find that it’s more expensive and less user-friendly than the leading alternatives. Those looking for web hosting will find that it’s not a good value for price as its plans are more expensive than top competitors and offers less storage and fewer features and inclusions. In the instance where a user is interested in its drag-and-drop site builder, they will find one of the top website builders to be more user-friendly and lend to more professional websites.

Network Solutions Is Best For:

  • Those who are interested in registering a domain name for an extended period of time (e.g., 10, 20 or 100 years)

Network Solutions Is Not Recommended For:

  • Budget-conscious consumers who want the best price
  • Beginners who need a very user-friendly registrar and host
  • Users who appreciate a modern and intuitive platform

What Sets Network Solutions Apart

Network Solutions offers a long list of services and features, however, it is something of a jack of all trades and master of nothing. It’s more expensive than competitors and offers fewer features, whether that’s for domain name registration, web hosting plans or its website builder plans.

It’s also worth noting that many of its so-called features, which are available for an additional fee, are often included with other registrars and hosts. For example, Network Solutions advertises domain forwarding as a feature, which costs $12.99 per year. However, this is a standard inclusion with the purchase of a domain name.

Network Solutions Features

Network Solutions offers a range of website-related services, such as domain name registration, web hosting plans, website builder plans, business email, and website security. While it offers a number of services, it does not offer any standout features, nor do any of its services stand out in terms of quality, price or service.

Domain Registration

The domain name registration process is straightforward. As with nearly any domain name registrar, you can simply search for your desired domain name and see a list of available domain extensions. However, unlike most registrars, Network Solutions does not display pricing until you begin the checkout process.

Beware that Network Solutions will automatically add any domain you searched for into your cart. You also might notice that it adds other domain extensions to your cart as well, so be careful during checkout that you only purchase the domains you actually want to buy. For example, I searched for “” and it added both “” and” to my cart.

Web Hosting

Network Solutions offers web hosting services that range in price from $5.69 per month to $31.61 per month (if billed annually). Its entry-level Starter plan includes 15GB of storage space, unlimited bandwidth and five email addresses. It does not include a free domain name, an SSL certificate or a money-back guarantee—all of which are standard inclusions in the industry.

Website Security

For an added layer of protection, Network Solutions offers website security plans starting at $7.99 per month. This includes daily malware scans (up to 500 pages), automatic malware removal in the event that malware is detected, and daily vulnerability scans. It also sells SSL certificates starting at $76.89 per year with a two-year contract. For insight, most web hosting plans include a free SSL certificate, and the average price to buy a third-party SSL certificate is around $50 or $60 per year.

Business Email

Network Solutions offers business email hosting that enables users to create a custom business email address that uses a domain name they own (e.g., [email protected]). Plans start at $1.75 per month per inbox for 25GB of storage. For more storage, users can upgrade to its Professional Email Plus plan for $4.99 per month, which includes 80GB of storage. Though this is affordable, it’s worth keeping in mind that many of the best web hosting services include business email for free, so it may be worth choosing a hosting service with free email instead.

*Please note that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a claim against Network Solutions for its misleading money-back guarantee, which promised a full refund within 30 days of purchase. However, Network Solutions failed to uphold its advertised guarantee, and instead charged many users substantial cancellation fees. The end result was that the FTC obtained the settlement for misleading consumers.

Network Solutions Customer Service and Support

In our experience, Network Solutions’ support is the absolute worst we’ve seen in the business. Not only does it lack basic knowledge (e.g., it couldn’t answer how much the renewal price is for its Website Builder plan), but worse, it has a tendency to use deceptive language that makes it sound as if a product or service includes something it does not. Instead, it involves an extra fee.

For example, we inquired as to what makes Network Solutions stand out from the competition when it comes to domain name registration. The response from support was that it comes with domain name privacy, DNSSEC, and that it “may” come with an SSL certificate. Upon clarification, all of these “inclusions” involve an extra fee. Upon asking if there is a fee for DNSSEC, the live chat agent said yes, there is a fee. Then, upon inquiring as to what the fee is, the agent could not answer. The agent later returned to say that there is no fee.

On another occasion, we contacted support to ask what the renewal price is for its Website Builder plan, as the plan advertises an introductory cost of $2.95 per month, but it does not list its renewal rate. After much back and forth, support said it could not provide pricing without account information. So, in order to receive pricing from support, users must first sign up without knowing what they are signing up for. However, we did manage to find its renewal rate hidden within the fine print of an external disclaimer web page.

Unfortunately, these are not isolated examples. After contacting its support on multiple occasions, this was more or less how all experiences with Network Solutions support went.

Network Solutions vs. Google Domains

There’s no comparison when it comes to comparing Network Solutions to Google Domains. With Google Domains, all pricing is straightforward and transparent. Meanwhile, Network Solutions hides pricing. In fact, it does not display the price of domains until you begin the checkout process. On top of that, Network Solutions costs nearly double, and it does not include domain name privacy as Google Domains does. So not only does Google Domains offer a far better user experience, top-notch support and privacy protection, but it also costs a fraction of the price for those who want domain privacy.

Network Solutions vs. Hover

In the battle of which domain name registrar is better: Network Solutions vs. Hover, the answer is clear. Hover is superior. It has a clean and intuitive interface that creates a good user experience, it is cheaper than Network Solutions and it includes domain name privacy. Additionally, Hover has good-quality customer service, whereas Network Solutions has very troublesome support quality that will likely increase your headache, as opposed to alleviating it.

Network Solutions vs. GoDaddy

GoDaddy and Network Solutions both offer a similar set of services. However, a domain name from GoDaddy will be cheaper for your first year. The second year, however, will cost $2.17 more per year—unless you include domain name privacy. In which case, GoDaddy is the cheaper option. In regard to web hosting, GoDaddy costs less per month and offers a far better value as it includes 10GB more storage space, an SSL certificate and a more user-friendly dashboard.

Our Expert Opinion

No matter what service you are looking for, you are better off looking elsewhere. Network Solutions costs more than the top competitors in the space, but it also cannot justify its higher price as it offers fewer features, a poor user experience and low-quality support.
